MX vs. ATV is an American racing video game franchise developed by Rainbow Studios and published by THQ Nordic that focuses on off-road racing. The series was formerly published by THQ until its bankruptcy and liquidation. As the name suggests, the series' main focus is racing with motocross bikes and all-terrain vehicles, although other vehicles such as dune buggies and sport trucks were also featured in the games. Players can also fly airplanes and helicopters in some of the games.[1]

On August 9, 2011, THQ announced that it would shut down THQ Digital Phoenix (which Rainbow Studios was known as at the time) as well as other game development studios and not 'actively pursue further development' of the MX vs. ATV franchise in a company re-organization.[2][3]

In April 2013, Nordic Games acquired the franchise through the liquidation of THQ.[4] In December 2013, they announced a new title in the series, MX vs. ATV Supercross, due for release on September 9, 2014 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows, OS X and Linux which was pushed back to October 28, 2014 for fixes. The PlayStation 4 version of the game was released on October 27, 2015 as MX vs. ATV Supercross Encore with an Xbox One version due for release afterward.[5]

On September 14, 2017, THQ Nordic released a trailer for a new title in the series, MX vs. ATV All Out, which was released on March 27, 2018.

THQ Nordic and Rainbow Studios have announced MX vs. ATV All Out, which will continue the the classic series on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in early 2018.

I’ve been a fan of the MX vs. ATV series since I first played MX vs. ATV Untamed on Xbox 360 back in 2008, so I was sad to see the series hit a snag after THQ went under. Fortunately, THQ Nordic (then known as Nordic Games) was able to acquire the rights to the series and make sure its then-in development entry, MX vs ATV Supercross released in 2014 on Xbox 360 and PS3 and in 2015 on PS4 and Xbox One.

Today, developer Rainbow Studios and THQ Nordic revealed the next entry in the series – MX vs. ATV All Out – which is going to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in early 2018.

MX vs ATV All Out will include classic series features such as being able to choose between bikes, ATVs and UTVs, and ride around huge open worlds or partake in different game modes, including Supercross, Nationals, Opencross, Waypoint, and Tag. A new Freestyle mode has also been added, and tasks players to win by pulling off insane stunts with MX vs. ATV All Out’s newly refined stunt system.

Outside of races, players can go back to their private compound to customize their rider, upgrade their vehicles, and test said vehicles out in a private arena. MX vs. ATV All Out Spirit airlines flights. includes gear from many different real companies, so players will have a lot of options when customizing their character. As for multiplayer, the game will include two-player split-screen local co-op and support up to sixteen players in online races.

Klemens Kreuzer, Managing Director at THQ Nordic, had the following to say about the game:

“All Out is the culmination of Rainbow’s decades-long commitment to creating the most comprehensive and fun off-road racing games! Whether your pulling off stunts on your own private compound, exploring wide-open terrain in a UTV, or racing in 16-player online competitions, All Out invites players of all ages and skill levels to experience the freedom of racing and competing off-road.” Line pop2 heart friendship.
